The wolf - Canis Lupus

Great predator, very present and hunted by man until the end of the last century. Disappeared in the Cevennes, famous, notorious as 'the beast of Gevaudan'. Last Lozère was killed in the early 50s and exposed to the public at the Town Hall of Mende.

Wolves live in a structured group and a very developped social behavior.

Eat large and small mammals, carrion, plants, fruits, insects and molluscs. Digs a burrow with several ways out.

The female carries 60 to 65 days and gives birth to 4-12 blind pups who open their eyes after 12 to 15 days.
Females : 50 kg. Males up to 80kg. They live 10 to 12 years.
