The smallest black crow and the only black bird with a grey nape.
Typical notes are higher-pitched than the larger black crows ; a clipped metallic ‘kow’ or ‘kyow’, and a softer ‘chack’, both of which may be repeated several times with an antiphonal effect.
Both flight and gait much quicker and jerkier than those of the larger black crows. Open and cultivated country with rocks, crags and old trees like in the Cévennes and at the causses, nests in holes in trees, rocks and even in town in buildings. 13 inch
