The Cevennes In between the mount Lozère and the mount Aigoual is situated a region full of contrasts, deep valleys and steep hillsides, accentuated by slatestone mountain chains. In this region, mankind had to work harder than anywhere to create a, by building terraces 'bancels' for suitable for agriculture and fit to plant chestnut-trees, also called in this region "l'arbre à pain' (the bread-tree). These chestnut trees add a colorful beauty to the Cevennes in Autumn. This natural and wild countryside, with numerous brooklets and rivers is now being presrved by the Cevennes National Park.
