Village de Saint-Germain-de-Calberte The house is situated in the hamlet of  "La Fare", at an altitude 650 m, in the central zone of the Cevennes National Park (PNC).

"La Fare" is within 6 kilometers of the village of Saint-Germain de Calberte where all the services are found : bakery, bookshop-tobacco, grocery-shop, bar-restaurant, doctor…

The hamlet of Fare

Perched on a peak, the hamlet profits from an exceptional exposure and a varied flora and fauna. The hamlet is supplied with water by its own spring.

La Fare is a typical example of Cevennes traditional architecture in local schist-stone : traditional houses, baker's oven, cisterns, and terraces out of dry stone (bancels),…

The path Small Excursion (PR) of Flandonenque, signalized by the PNC, leads along the hamlet.

In the evening, you will be able to observe  by good weather, a extraordinary starry sky, and many fireflies!!

Village de Saint-Germain-de-Calberte
History of the hamlet….

This hamlet, was firstly quoted in texts in the Middle Ages and was the place of gathering of primarily german antifascists during the second worldwar. Alerted by local peasants, about thirty men of the resistance could escape on time from the attack of the militia on  February the 12th, 1944, who dynamited all the houses of the hamlet. The hamlet remained in the state of ruins until 1990, when some young people undertook its restoration. Today, it is habited by about 20 inhabitants, of which the half resides there all year round.
