The hamlet of Fare

Perched on a peak, the hamlet profits from an exceptional exposure and a varied flora and fauna. The hamlet is supplied with water by its own spring.

La Fare is a typical example of Cevennes traditional architecture in local schist-stone : traditional houses, baker's oven, cisterns, and terraces out of dry stone (bancels),…

The path Small Excursion (PR) of Flandonenque, signalized by the PNC, leads along the hamlet.

In the evening, you will be able to observe  by good weather, a extraordinary starry sky, and many fireflies!!

Village de Saint-Germain-de-Calberte
History of the hamlet….

This hamlet, was firstly quoted in texts in the Middle Ages and was the place of gathering of primarily german antifascists during the second worldwar. Alerted by local peasants, about thirty men of the resistance could escape on time from the attack of the militia on  February the 12th, 1944, who dynamited all the houses of the hamlet. The hamlet remained in the state of ruins until 1990, when some young people undertook its restoration. Today, it is habited by about 20 inhabitants, of which the half resides there all year round.

You enter by an short alley bordered by shrubs.
At the left, a shaded garden invites you for the nap…

… Then, a staircase reaches a first sunny terrace, exposed SW offering a view over the entire valley.

At this terrace level you will reach the house, directly in the main room, a the living room with kitchen and sitting corner, chimney and a library.

You will be able to choose the terrace under the holm oaks, or around a large wooden table o chestnut

Nearby, a hut brood in a black oak makes the happiness of the children.

Fully equiped kitchen (no dishwasher)

By the staircase, we reach two bedrooms nicely arranged under the wooden beams of the roof.

Each bedroom contains a bed (one 90 cm bed and an additional bed, or a 140 cm large doublebed) and racks for arrangement.

Starting from the main room, another staircase goes down to the ground floor, where there is a bathroom, with shower and toilet. Nextdoor ther is a third bedroom, with a doublebed of 140 cm,  racks and arrangements and all the necessary to make sleep a baby.

By a door at ground floor, you enter in a small courtyard where you will be able to see the old baker's oven, then after having crossed through a porch you find yourselves in the alley, the one at the beginning of the visit…
