Local History

The actual village is created by the unification of four villages : Le Collet, Dourdon, Dèzes and la Bastide. The hamlet de Dèze is dominated by an ancient "castrum"-the former county town, from which the region de Dèze borrows it's name.
The existence of habitation at this place remounts to the celtic era.

The Reformation won over the region off 1561 and the most of the population took the new religion.
Then the revocation of the Nantes-edict and the persecutions, forced the protestants to converse into catholic. They organised secret protestant meetings at remoted places like:  vallon de Meyrières, Plau des baïonnettes and " Ronc de Prego Diou", during the so-called "desert"-period.

Marking evenements of the XIX and XX th century :
- Construction Route Nationale 106, years 1880
- Departemental Railway from Ste Cécile d'Andorge
   to Florac, in 1906  (track closed in 1968).
- Foundation school-group Gamala and a old people's home.
